I spent this afternoon in Knole Park watching a cross country race that my son was competing in. It was bitterly cold with occasional snow flurries, and the ground was thick with mud. There were several hundred competitors. The Great Knole run attracts many schools from across Kent, & London as well as some from further afield.

It was clear that, from first to last, all were giving it their best shot and most seemed to be relishing the conditions and the challenge; in that strangely masochistic manner that runners have. If you’ve ever wandered just how happy a group of teenagers old be about running through mud & snow; just take a look at the photo below.

Their enthusiasm must have rubbed off on me. This evening’s run, while nothing special, was the most I have enjoyed a run for ages.

Of dreaming spires

Another Janathon day, another late-ish run in the dark. 4 miles trotted out around the default loop.
